Local Broker Achieves National Association Of Realtors “Green” Designation

Barbara Highfield, designated broker with Tombstone Real Estate, has been awarded the National Association of Realtors (NAR’s) Green Designation, the only green real estate professional designation recognized by NAR and the newest designation available to Realtors.
Highfield achieved this prestigious designation after completing 18 hours of course work at Hogan’s School of Real Estate in Tucson. The courses were created in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team of industry experts from across the country, ensuring designees gain comprehensive knowledge of green homes and issues of sustainability in relation to real estate.
“I was trained in understanding what makes a property green, helping clients evaluate the cost/benefits of green building features and practices, distinguishing between industry rating and classification systems, listing and marketing green homes and helping consumers see a property’s green potential,” said Highfield. “It’s a great fit for me; combining love for the earth with my love for the real estate industry.”
“As energy costs rise along with concerns for the environment, homeowners are looking for innovative ways to save money and live responsibly,” said Dick Gaylor, NAR’s immediate past president. NAR’s Green Designation was developed in response to growing awareness of the benefits of resource-efficient homes. The designation helps consumers who care about energy efficiency and sustainable building practices identify Realtors who can help them realize their green real estate and lifestyle goals.
Barbara Highfield has a bachelor’s degree in technical journalism, a master’s degree in business administration (MBA) and is a Graduate of the Realtor’s Institute (GRI), an Accredited Buyer’s Representative (ABR) and has earned the Women’s Council of Realtors designation of Performance Management Network (PMN). Highfield is a member of the Southeast Arizona’s Association of Realtors education committee and president-elect for the local chapter of Women’s Council of Realtors (WCR). In addition, she has taught online business classes at Cochise College for the past ten years.
Highfield and her husband, Jock, moved to Tombstone in 1994 from Oregon and she earned her real estate license the same year. In 1995 she first began working for Tombstone Real Estate and became owner and designated broker in 2001. The office, located at 204 E. Fremont Street, has six other licensees to serve Cochise County. Their website is http://www.tombstonerealestate.com and the phone number is 520-457-3322.
